If you’re like me, you never knew that there was a farmers’ market right here in Hartford’s West End! Every Tuesday evening (4-7pm) from now until the end of October 2014, local vendors come together for the wonderful West End Farmers’ Market. Located at “Clemens Green” on Farmington Avenue between Owen St and the Mark Twain House, the market consists of 10-15 food vendors from semi-local farms (mainly east of the CT River, in towns like Glastonbury, Lebanon, Colchester, etc.).
A beatiful day at the West End Farmers' Market on Clemens Green, Farmington Avenue
No matter where it comes from, the food looks and tastes delicious—and comprises a wide variety. I left the market with bags and bags of blueberries, plums, zucchinis, tomatoes, a fresh-baked bread loaf, feta, goat, and mozzarella cheese, and a brownie for dessert! I had to restrain myself from getting the thickly-cut slabs of bacon from the meat vendor too! This is not mention the handful of other vendors, including one selling handmade craft baskets and another selling bar soaps--wrapped in exfoliating wool clothes (which I also bought). In addition, there were a couple trucks selling smoothies, frozen yogurt, and other snacks, and a DJ providing continuous jams! It was a lovely market and an even lovelier dinner after!
If you’ve never been, I highly recommend you check out the West End Farmers' Market this summer or fall. You’re sure to find something you like! For more information, visit www.wefm.org.
